CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Joseph Carpenter | 1B | Delaware

Carpenter batted .588 (10-17) with three doubles, three triples, two homers, nine runs scored and seven RBI’s as Delaware ran its winning streak to nine with a 4-0 week. The junior was 9-for-13 in a sweep of Saint Peter’s, with eight hits going for extra bases. He finished the week with a 1.471 slugging percentage.
CAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Wyatt Scotti | RHP | Northeastern
So. - Barnstable, Mass./St. Mark’s
Scotti didn’t give up a hit over 7.0 shutout innings and struck out 10 in Northeastern’s 1-0 victory over Elon on Sunday. The sophomore retired the first 15 batters he faced before issuing a walk in the sixth, but didn’t allow a baserunner after that. Scotti (6-1) struck out at least one batter in each inning.

Phelan surrendered just two hits over 7.0 scoreless innings to lead UNCW past Hofstra, 11-0, last Saturday. The freshman left-hander retired the first 13 batters he faced, gave up only a pair of singles and allowed one runner past second base. Phelan, who struck out five, improved to 2-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.95.

Sprague limited Northeastern to one hit over 7.0 shutout innings in Elon’s 1-0 win at Northeastern in the nightcap of Sunday’s doubleheader. The freshman left-hander held the Huskies to a third-inning single, retired 10 consecutive batters at one point, and allowed just one NU runner to reach second base. Sprague, who fanned five, improved to 3-0 with a 0.85 ERA.
CONFERENCE NOTES:
CHARLESTON, W&M SET FOR FIRST-PLACE SHOWDOWN: Charleston and William & Mary are tied for first place at 7-2 after the Cougars swept JMU and the Tribe swept Towson last weekend. The CAA co-leaders will meet in a 3-game series at Patriots Point starting Friday. Also on the weekend slate, Hofstra hosts Delaware, Towson visits UNCW and Northeastern is at JMU.
DELAWARE KEEPS ROLLING: Delaware pushed its winning streak to nine with a 4-0 week. The 9-game surge is the 4th-longest active streak in Division I. The Blue Hens beat Rider last Tuesday to advance to the championship game of the Liberty Bell Classic. They will face Villanova for the title on April 19 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
CARPENTER RECEIVES NATIONAL HONOR: Delaware first baseman Joseph Carpenter was honored as one of 11 National Players of the Week from Collegiate Baseball newspaper following his big offensive performance against Rider and Saint Peter’s.
CHARLESTON (19-12, 7-2 CAA): The Cougars remained tied for first place in the CAA following a three-game sweep of James Madison that featured two walk-off wins. CofC tallied three runs with two outs in the 9th on Saturday, including a game-winning RBI single from Sam Cochrane. Cam Dean’s RBI single in the 9th lifted the Cougars to a 7-6 victory on Sunday. Cochrane batted .600 (6-10) and drove in six in the series. Dean had back-to-back 3-for-5 games against the Dukes. Trotter Harlan was 5-for-10 in the final two games vs. JMU and is batting .308 for the season. William Privette earned a win and a save in the series and struck out seven in 5.1 innings. He’s 2-0 with five saves and a 1.06 ERA.
DELAWARE (19-10, 4-2 CAA): The Blue Hens pushed their winning streak to nine after a 6-2 victory over Rider in the Liberty Bell Classic semifinals and a three-game sweep of Saint Peter’s. Joseph Carpenter batted .588 (10-17) with eight extra-base hits and seven RBI’s. JJ Freeman homered twice and drove in five on Saturday vs. SPU, while Joey Loynd was 7-of-11 last week with five RBI’s. Joey Silan held SPU to one hit over 7.0 scoreless innings on Saturday and struck out a season-high eight. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last 13.0 frames. Wyatt Nelson tossed a 6.0 shutout innings on Sunday. Chris Ludman (14 K’s) and Zach Klapak combined for a program-record 19 strikeouts against SPU on Friday.
ELON (15-16, 3-6 CAA): The Phoenix lost three-of-four last week, but edged Northeastern, 1-0, in the finale of their CAA series. Freshman lefty Shea Sprague held NU to one single over 7.0 shutout innings and fanned five. He’s now 3-0 with a league-low 0.85 ERA. Will Vergantino’s RBI single in the 4th provided the game’s only run. Elon also got an excellent outing from Brian Edgington in Sunday’s first game, limiting the Huskies to one run on two hits over 8.0 innings while striking out eight. Luke Stephenson belted a 3-run homer in a 7-3 setback at NU on Friday. Charlie Granatell had a 7-game hitting streak snapped on Sunday, but is still batting .306 for the season.
HOFSTRA (13-13, 5-4 CAA): The Pride had a 1-3 week, but rallied for a 5-2 victory at UNCW in Sunday’s series finale. Brad Camarda held the Seahawks to two runs over 7.0 innings and struck out four, and Michael O’Hanlon earned his third save with two scoreless frames. Camarda is the first Hofstra pitcher to start 5-0 since John Rooney in 2018. Mark Faello threw his second complete game of the season on Friday at UNCW, giving up three runs and striking out a career-high nine in a 3-1 setback. Zack Bailey drove in his first run in a Hofstra uniform in the 9th inning of Sunday’s victory. Anthony D’Onofrio has reached base in 15 consecutive games. Kevin Bruggeman saw his 12-game hit streak snapped on Saturday.
JAMES MADISON (17-14, 4-5 CAA): The Dukes rolled over VMI, 12-2, last Wednesday but dropped three games by a total of five runs at CAA foe Charleston. Chase DeLauter went 3-for-4 with two homers and six RBI’s at VMI and was 4-for-4 with a double and triple in Saturday’s setback at CofC. He tops the CAA with a .437 batting average, 8 homers and 35 RBI’s. Travis Reifsnider hit .429 (6-14) for the week and drove in eight, while Kyle Novak finished the week with eight hits and four RBI’s. Fenwick Trimble has a hit in nine of his last 10 games. Anthony Piccolino tossed 3.0 shutout innings from the pen on Friday and fanned four. Sean Culkin didn’t allow a run in 2.1 innings of relief at CofC on Saturday.
UNCW (18-12, 3-3 CAA): The Seahawks took two-of-three from Hofstra last weekend. Freshman RJ Sales moved to 4-1 after giving up one run over 6.0 innings and striking out a career-high nine in a 3-1 triumph on Friday. Ethan Baucom’s two-run double in the fourth broke open a tie game. Freshman Cyle Phelan (2-0) was dominant in Saturday’s 11-0 win, limiting the Pride to two hits over 7.0 shutout innings. John Newton smacked a grand slam, while Baucom and Bryan Arendt hit two-run homers to provide most of the offense. Freshman Zane Taylor also held Hofstra to two hits and no runs over 7.0 frames on Sunday, but didn’t get a decision in a 5-2 setback. Matt Suggs belted his 8th homer in the loss.
NORTHEASTERN (16-15-1, 3-6 CAA): The Huskies had a 2-2 week, highlighted by a CAA series win over Elon. NU’s pitching was strong all week. Wyatt Scotti didn’t allow a hit over 7.0 scoreless innings and fanned 10 in a 1-0 win in the opener of a Sunday doubleheader. Cam Schlittler held Elon to three hits and one run while striking out 11 in the nightcap, but lost 1-0. Eric Yost tossed 5.0 shutout frames over three games out of the bullpen. Jordy Allard threw 3.0 scoreless innings in a start vs. Boston College and threw 2.0 scoreless innings of relief to get a win vs. Elon. Offensively, Spenser Smith batted .364 (4-11), including a three-run homer in Friday’s 7-3 triumph over the Phoenix.
TOWSON (9-23, 0-6 CAA): The Tigers beat George Washington, 9-6, last Tuesday to end a six-game slide, but got swept in their weekend series at William & Mary. Danny Becerra was 3-for-5 with a double, homer and four RBI’s against GW as the Tigers had a season-high 15 hits. Becerra has recorded a hit in eight of his last nine games and is batting .286 for the season. Max Simpson (2-0) didn’t allow a run and fanned three over 2.2 innings to get the win over the Colonials and held W&M to one run in 2.0 frames. Jack McLaughlin hit a solo homer at W&M on Saturday and went 2-for-3 on Sunday. He ranks third in the CAA with a .380 batting average.
WILLIAM & MARY (16-12, 7-2 CAA): The Tribe is off to its best CAA start since 2014 after sweeping a three-game series from Towson to remain tied for first place at 7-2. Mark Trotta batted .545 (6-11) with a double, triple, five runs scored and seven RBI’s, including a 4-for-4 effort on Saturday. Tyler Solomon went 3-for-4 with a double, homer and three RBI’s on Sunday. Joe Delossantos homered twice and drove in seven against the Tigers. W&M’s pitching staff gave up just four earned runs over the three games. Jacob Haney threw the final 4.0 frames on Friday, allowing one hit and no runs while fanning six. Carter Lovasz limited TU to two hits in 4.0 innings on Sunday and struck out four.
