Campbell baseball will be trying to climb both back into the national spotlight and up the CAA ladder as it welcomes North Carolina A&T, a squad who has mostly surprised early on in the season but is in danger of falling fast, for a trio of games at 6:00 p.m. Friday, 3:00pm Saturday and 2:00pm Sunday (all Eastern Time) at Jim Perry Stadium. All three games will be streamed live and exclusively on FloBaseball.

The host Fighting Camels (19-8 overall, 3-3 CAA) are amid their first season in the CAA after dominating the Big South Conference for multiple seasons and turning into one of the premier mid-major programs in all of college baseball, but their new league has by no means been a cakewalk thus far, as they currently sit .500 in conference after two league series played and have fallen out of national Top 25 polls.

Meanwhile, North Carolina A&T (17-10, 2-4 CAA) is well on pace both for its first winning season since 2019 and to crush last season’s win total (19), but a four-game slide against tough competition (losing in nonconference play to North Carolina last Tuesday and in CAA play to defending tournament champion UNC Wilmington this past weekend) has dinged the Aggies a little bit. Taking a series from Campbell on the road would be a great way for NC A&T to get back on track.

Player to Watch: Grant Knipp, C/RHP, Campbell

An easy choice, yes, but when you have a start to the year like Knipp is having, it needs to be further emphasized that he’s a can’t-miss player and pro prospect—if he plays this weekend, that is. Only Georgia’s Charlie Condon and Texas A&M’s Braden Montgomery have more home runs (as of Tuesday afternoon) in college baseball thus far this season than Knipp, who is currently tied for third in the country with 15 long bombs, and his 40 RBIs to date put him tied for 11th nationally and second in the CAA behind Northeastern’s Alex Lane (46).

Where Knipp has Lane’s number, however, is in batting average with a league-leading .455 clip through 22 games played, and his eye-popping slugging percentage of 1.156 is also not only the best in the CAA by a significant margin but also the second-best (only behind Condon) in all of America going into this week as he is one of just three players in college baseball who have a slugging percentage over 1.000.

Oh, and he occasionally pitches for the Fighting Camels (5⅓ innings, 1.59 ERA this year) and can reach the high 90s with his fastball. Injury has been the only thing to slow Knipp down as he hasn’t played since the second game in a three-game series against Delaware on March 23, but if the return comes this week against the Aggies, Campbell immediately gets back a player that could turn it into one of the country’s most dangerous teams.
