The college baseball season begins Feb. 17 around the country and the first weekend is filled with several marquee events. 

While a lot of focus will be in Arlington, Texas at the College Baseball Showdown, several talented teams will travel to Southwest Florida for the Snowbird Baseball 2023 in Port Charlotte, Fla.

This year’s event, which started in 2007 and features Division I and Division III teams, includes the defending BIG EAST Champions, UConn, as well as Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Iowa, among others. The tournament spans across two weeks from Feb. 17- 26 for Division I games while Division-III games running from March 3 to March 16.

Ohio State Baseball Vs. UConn Baseball: What To Know

The first weekend of games at the Snowbird Baseball 2023 is highlighted by BIG EAST champion UConn playing Ohio State of the Big Ten. The Buckeyes will reveal a new coaching staff led by Bill Mosiello, who was an assistant coach at baseball power TCU before arriving in Columbus. Mosiello was a longtime minor league coach before his stint in Fort Worth and takes over for Greg Beals, who coached the Buckeyes for 11 seasons. 

Mosiello’s first series won’t be an easy one. UConn has built one of the Northeast’s best college programs and won 50 games in 2022. The Huskies reached the Super Regionals in 2022.
